These training courses educate emergency responders about basic strategies that safeguard their health and safety when their work involves potential exposure to hazardous materials.

Hazardous Material First Responder Operational

Description:
This training course is to educate emergency responders about the basic strategies to safeguard their health and safety when their work involves potential exposure to hazardous materials. 

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Detect the presence of hazardous substance
  • Consult appropriate references for additional information
  • Implement work practices that minimize the possibility of contamination

Refresher training is required, at least annually, to keep skills current.

Course Information:
Length:

Three day course,  8-hours per day.

More time may be required for classes of responders who need additional instruction in other areas.

Unit 1: Common Alarms
Unit 2: Health & Safety
Unit 3: Hazardous Materials 
Unit 4: The Planned Response

OEMS Credits:
 Approved for 24  OEMS credits.

Class Size:
Minimum number of students is 12
Maximum number of students is 20

Cost varies depending on class size and duration.

Engine Company Decon Training

Description:
The purpose of this training course is to educate emergency responders about basic strategies to safeguard their health and safety when their work involves potential exposure to hazardous materials.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and  identify chemical suit selection
  • Identify decontamination procedures
  • Provide patient care during each decon
  • Layout single engine emergency decon
  • Layout mass casualty/ terrorism incident technical decon
  • Decon decontamination prioritization matrix

Length:

This is an 8 hour course

OEMS Credits:
 Approved for  8  OEMS credits.

Class Size:
Minimum number of students is 12
Maximum number of students is 20

Cost varies depending on class size and duration.
